Harry Bennett

Harry Wente Bennett was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Wheatland, Missouri, the son of Harry and Cleo (Wente) Bennett and baby brother to Kathryn Parker, Rebecca Williams, and Helen Mabry. He passed away in Springfield, Missouri, on Aug. 6, 2018.

Harry had a magical childhood full of farming, homemade outdoor fun, and evening get-togethers full of music and stories. At age 7, he met the love of his life, Leola (Kragel) when she moved to an adjoining farm, and later enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

He served in Korea in the U.S. Army. His career started with the railroad and transitioned to the feed industry. He retired as a vice president at Kent Feeds.

He and Leola spent 40 years in Blue Springs, Missouri, where he was an active member of Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church.

Retirement years were spent fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking. Seeing the world on almost 40 trips to other countries was the fulfillment of a dream created from a lifetime of studying National Geographic magazines. Harry missed his Blue Springs home over the past five years, but enjoyed his new friends at The Montclair.

Harry was proud of his family, including his surviving wife, Leola; three children and their spouses, Harry and Margie Bennett, Roger and Beth Bennett, and Nancy and Mike Good; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Harry’s life at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at The Manor at Elfindale Chapel.

Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church, 301 SW Woods Chapel Road, Blue Springs, Missouri 64015.
