Staff writers

Hillsboro will be host for Marion and other teams at a Class 2A regional volleyball tournament Monday.

Goessel also is likely to be host for a Class 1A regional.

Hillsboro

The Trojans finished 4-1 Saturday at their home invitational against five other teams.

Hillsboro swept Chapman, Haven, and Rock Creek 2-0 before losing 2-1 to Halstead and coming back to beat Minneapolis in three sets.

The Trojans are 26-9 in matches heading into their final regular season match of the season Thursday against Lebo.

Goessel

Second-seed Goessel finished second Saturday at their Wheat State League tournament.

The Bluebirds defeated Elyria Christian 25-11, 25-16 and third-seed Rural Vista 25-12, 25-14 before lunch and Herington 25-11, 25-13 and Canton-Galva 25-18, 25-18 after the break.

Against Class 1A’s top-ranked team, Little River, the Bluebirds were dominated 25-9 in the first set but kept the second set close, losing 25-21.

The Bluebirds are 24-10 for the season, and it appears Goessel will be host for regional action Tuesday.

Centre

The Cougars won against all three opponents — Wakefield, Peabody-Burns, and Solomon — Saturday while being host for a 7-to-10-seed quad tournament Saturday.

“We are certainly proud of the growth we are seeing with the girls when adversity hits,” coach Amy Finch said. “We are especially impressed with how our freshmen have improved when stepping up in important roles.”

Centre’s senior night will be Thursday against Flint Hills Christian and Wakefield.

“We are extremely thankful for our seniors,” Finch said. “We cannot thank them enough for their dedication to our program and improving our underclassmen this year.”

Centre will play along with Peabody-Burns in regional Tuesday at a site to be determined.

Peabody-Burns

Peabody-Burns ended its regular season Saturday in the quad at Centre.

The Warriors beat Solomon 2-0, lost to Centre 2-0, and won against Wakefield in three sets.

Marion

The Warriors lost twice Thursday to Berean Academy and then were hosts for senior night on Tuesday against Central Christians. At 11-18 going into Tuesday’s contest, Marion next will head for Class 2A play Monday at Hillsboro.
