Kapaun museum sees steady stream of visitors

Thursday was a very busy day at the Father Kapaun Museum in Pilsen. Ray Kapaun and David Kapaun, nephews of Fr. Kapaun, were there all day to greet visitors.

A large group of Protestant chaplains from Ft. Riley visited. More than 60 were expected but several had gone overseas and couldn’t attend.

Also visiting were two families and their priest from Maple Hill. Father John Cabot, the two husbands, and two of the oldest boys rode the 70 miles from Maple Hill on bicycles. Other family members came by car.

“From what I could tell from the telling of their experiences, they had a wonderful trip,” Carol Sklenar said. “The folks loved being able to meet the Kapauns.”

A family of siblings from Ohio and Indiana was celebrating their parents’ 60th wedding anniversary at St. Marys and decided to take a trip to Pilsen. The oldest sibling is a Sister at a convent in Massachusetts.

On Friday, more than 25 fifth and sixth grade students from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in McPherson visited for the day.

“I always look forward to working with the kids,” Sklenar said.
