The last time the Marion softball and baseball teams were in action, they wrapped up the home portion of the schedule April 26 with a clean sweep of Sedgwick.

Mother Nature threw a record-setting curveball, dropping rainfall that not only wiped out the final two games, but often moved practices inside.

Not having a final tune-up before regionals got underway this week may have been a big cause of concern for coaches Judy Noller and Roger Schroeder.

There was no reason to worry with both Warrior teams exploding into the postseason winning Monday’s first round games in blowout fashion.

The Canton-Galva Eagles’ luck hasn’t changed with the third-seeded Warrior softball team at the Moundridge regional.

For the second time in the last month, the Warriors run-ruled the Eagles, 13-3, to set up a semifinal showdown with Remington.

Pending a victory over the Broncos, the Warriors will need to get past two familiar opponents in the top-seeded hosting Wildcats, or Hutch Trinity for a ticket to Pratt’s Class 2-1A state tournament.

The baseball team picked up right where it left off in Salina at the Ell-Saline regional, steamrolling Belleville-Republic County 18-3.

The top-seeded Warriors will need a semifinal victory over the Sacred Heart Knights and knock off either second seed Chase County, or the hosting Cardinals for a third straight trip to state.

The drop from Class 3A to 2A will leave the Warriors traveling to Great Bend, instead of Manhattan.
