Mayme Franta
Mass of Christian Burial for Mayme Margaret Franta, 87, who passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2026, was 1 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, Kansas.
Rosary preceded Mass at 12:30 p.m. She was laid to rest at Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado.
Mayme was born Dec. 16, 1938, in Marion to Albert Mathias and Edith Anna “Emma” (Remmers) Swehla. She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School.
On Sept. 20, 1958, Mayme married the love of her life, Lester Franta, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen, Kansas. They shared many years together until Lester preceded her in passing Feb. 26, 2014.
Mayme had a deep love for home and family. She enjoyed cooking for those she loved, cross-stitching, and spending countless hours cheering on her beloved grandchildren as she watched them play ball. These simple joys brought her great happiness and reflected her caring and devoted nature.
Mayme will be remembered for her quiet strength, her loving heart, and her unwavering dedication to her family.
She is survived by her children, Kim Riemann of El Dorado and Tim Franta (and wife D’Ann) of Derby; grandchildren Kiel (and wife Lindsey) Riemann of Louisburg, Kent Riemann of Rosalia, and Danielle (and husband Ross) Brittain of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Adrienne Rodriguez, Noah and Nolan Riemann, and Madison, Emma, and Charlotte Brittain.
Mayme was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, Lester; her son, Bennett Franta; and her sister, Zeffie Marler.
Memorial donations in her name may be directed towards the Father Kapaun Building Fund and Home Health and Hospice of Kansas.
