New athletic director hired

A physical education teacher from Manhattan will become Marion schools’ activities director in August.
Brian Schuh will assume activity director duties, which includes athletics, for both high and middle schools and also will teach classes.
A second appointment at Monday’s school board meeting was Chase Carlson as assistant high school football coach.
Superintendent Aaron Homburg was given a contract for another three years, but the board has not yet selected a new high school principal to replace Todd Gordon, who will retire at the end of this year.
Homburg said the field has been narrowed and he expects to hire a principal at the next school board meeting.
Booster club members Jana Nordquist, Cheryl Christensen, and Bobby Richmond asked the board to provide transportation for an after-prom trip, possibly to Hutchinson. The board approved.
