New reporter has deep roots in Marion County

Paige Carr, a 2010 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School, this week joins the staff of the Marion County Record, Hillsboro Star-Journal, and Peabody Gazette-Bulletin.

No stranger to the papers, she wrote for the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin during her high school days as Paige Barnes and in 2012 interned there while in college, where she was a staff reporter for the Butler newspaper, The Lantern, and served as its managing editor her final year.

Upon graduating from Butler, she worked in Peabody as a special education para-educator and then for Prairie View Inc. as a community case manager before moving to an island off the coast of Maine in the fall of 2016 with her husband, Calvin, who after visiting an army buddy decided he wanted to give lobstering a shot. The couple returned to Kansas last month.

She will be covering a variety of topics around the county, with a special focus on Peabody news.

Carr enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hunting, fishing, and learning new things.

Her parents, Erik and JoLonna Barnes still live in Peabody, where her grandparents, Cora Bloomer and the late John “JB” Bloomer were longtime residents.
