These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Theft

Wildlife surveillance equipment and related items, together valued at $6,109, were reported stolen Sept. 18 from a field near 70th and Quail Creek Rds.

Owner Douglas F. Neeley of Church Hill, Tennessee, listed as stolen two video heads with tripods, two hunting cameras, five trail cameras, two specialized tripods, a truck tailgate, an ozone scent-reduction system, two camera batteries, 48 AA batteries, 10 T-shirts, and nine hats.

A report by deputy Kaylan Miles does not indicate when the thefts might have occurred.

Burglary

A fold-out LED light and 150 feet of electrical conduit, together valued at $2,200, were stolen between 5 p.m. Sept. 12 and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13 by a burglar who broken into Peabody Country Club, 40th and Nighthawk Rds., and caused an estimated $7,500 in damage to an industrial beverage cooler and furnace.

Domestic battery

The sheriff’s department is releasing little information about the victim of a domestic battery at 7:02 p.m. Sept. 20 in the driveway of a farmhouse on 170th Rd. between Eagle and Falcon Rds.

According to monitored transmissions, deputies were dispatched after receiving a report that a father was having medical issues that caused him to attack his 27-year-old son-in-law. A daughter also reportedly was involved. An ambulance was called, but no one was taken to a hospital.

Arrested was the farmhouse’s owner, Gerald D. Brooks, 57. He was jailed on suspicion of domestic battery and released the next morning after posting a $1,000 surety bond.

Aggravated assault and battery of law enforcement officer, other charges

As reported in a story last week, a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs sought to meet with sheriff’s deputies at 4:31 a.m. Sept. 18 in the 600 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro and then became involved in an altercation with them.

Recent parolee Brandon S. Smith, 30, Hutchinson, was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bond on suspicion of driving under the influence, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated escape from custody by use of violence, and criminal damage to property. He is accused of causing damage estimated at $120 to a smart wristwatch.

Smith allegedly wrestled himself free while being arrested and attempted to grab a deputy’s sidearm.

According to monitored transmissions, three deputies, two Hillsboro police officers, the sheriff, and the undersheriff had to subdue him after officers initially involved in the arrest were unable to confine him to a squad car.

Hillsboro ambulance attendants also were called the check his condition.

Possession and distribution of meth, other charges

Between 55 and 275 doses of methamphetamine were seized after a drug dog prompted a search of a vehicle stopped at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of S. Ash St. because its driver had a revoked license.

Police reported finding 27.54 grams of meth, a typical dose of which ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 of a gram.

Jeffrey Richard Vernon Prafke, 41, Wichita, was jailed on suspicion of possession and distribution of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacturing items, failing to have evidence of vehicular liability insurance, and driving while his license was revoked.

He was released less than a day later on a $10,000 personal recognizance promise.

MARION

Theft, unlawful computer acts

A total of $717 in currency was reported stolen between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18 from Ampride convenience store, 1225 E. Main St.

An offense report lists crimes of theft and of false representation via unlawful computer acts but offers no explanation. An accompanying narrative states that lottery tickets were stolen but adds that an investigation is ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.

Aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, marijuana possession

A neighbor notified police at 9:05 p.m. Friday of a fight that had occurred earlier outside a rental residence in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St.

The altercation reportedly began inside and spilled into the front yard, where a visitor repeatedly hit another person in the face with a closed fist until the neighbor intervened.

A suspect was located a short time later at another residence. Marijuana reportedly was found in his pocket.

Clifton L. Richmond, 36, Marion, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, and possession of marijuana.

Tax records indicate the residence is owned by Theron Nienstedt of rural Marion.
