Parade, music to highlight Burdick Labor Day

“Faith, Family, and Friends” sums up the spirit of the Burdick community, which will present its 46th annual Labor Day celebration Sept. 2 and 3.

At 2 p.m. Sept. 3, a parade will bring many people to the small town, population 60. Advanced registration is being accepted by Jennifer Kassebaum at (785) 983-4407.

Musical entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. Sept. 3 in the park with a performance by Into the Son, a Christian family band that sings and plays a variety of musical instruments.

After a pie auction at 12:30 p.m., Tallgrass Prairie Express String Band will perform bluegrass, folk ballads, and western swing songs.

Flint Hills Community Band will play through the parade and perform in the park.

Kids’ events will begin with a mutton bustin’ contest at 10:30 a.m. in the park.

Kids who bring turtles can compete in a turtle race at 1 p.m. A pedal power contest and a corn hole/washers competition will begin a 3 p.m.

A fun run and walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Main St. Rolls and coffee will be available in the fire station, along with a bake sale by Hebron Lutheran Church women.

Burdick Hustlers 4-H club will serve grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch in the park. The club will offer concessions all day.

Vendor booths will be available at the shelter house. Information for potential vendors is available from Linda Peterson at (785) 983-4459.

Raffle tickets will be sold for two handmade benches.

A community worship service will be at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2 on the tennis courts with Susie Talbot, pastor of Burdick United Methodist Church. Rolls and coffee will be served in the fire station after the service. Participants are being encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
