ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

June 13 — Drivers in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave. and the 100 block of S. Main St. were warned for making illegal J-turns. A driver at US-56 and Jade St. was warned for an equipment violation. A juvenile was informed about curfew. What was reported as being an intoxicated driver at Casey’s General Store turned out to be a person with a medical condition. (Story in last week’s paper.)

June 14 — A dog running free in the 200 block of Elm St. was returned to its owner. A driver in the 500 block of E. D St. was warned for speeding. Police stood by during a civil matter in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. Suspicious activity was reported in the same block. An arrest warrant was served in the 200 block of Elm St., but no corresponding arrest shows up in county jail records.

June 15 — Police followed the blood trail of a woman with an arm wound at Casey’s and discovered a man bleeding from his head in the 300 block of N. Ash St. Both were extremely intoxicated and were taken to hospitals. They provided minimal information but appeared to have been cut by glass from a broken storm door at the residence. The incident remains under investigation.

A disabled truck and a separate argument in Casey’s parking lot were investigated. Police again stood by during a civil matter in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. Police monitored traffic for Bike Across Kansas.

Thursday — Police conducted interviews and processed evidence from the two bleeding people the night before. They also helped with traffic control for Bike Across Kansas.

Friday — Roger A. Klenda, 48, Hillsboro, was arrested in the 100 block of S. Adams St. on suspicion of driving while his license was suspended. Another driver, pulled over during a drunken driving investigation, was cited but not arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A third driver — this one in the 200 block of W. B St. — also was cited but not arrested for driving with a suspended license.

A resident complained about a possibly unsafe elderly driver. For a third time in four days, police stood by during a civil matter in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave.

Saturday — A driver in the 500 block of N. Ash St. was warned for an equipment violation.

Sunday — No problem was found after a suspicious vehicle was reported in the 300 block of N. Birch St.

MARION

June 13 — A vehicle left behind a business in the 1200 block of E. Main St. was checked. The welfare of a resident of the 300 block of Elm St. was checked. Questions about an eviction were answered. Police met with a resident about suspicious activity the night before.

June 14 — A complaint about a barking dog near 1st and Washington Sts. was investigated. A car alarm reported to be going off in the 1500 block of E. Main St. was not located. A child custody issue was reported in the 600 block of S. Cedar St. ‘

June 15 — At the owner’s request, a residence in the 400 block of S. 4th St. was checked for trespassing, but no one was found. The residence was secured.

No action was taken after police responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Walnut St.

A notice to appear in municipal court for nuisance violations was served. A disconnected 911 call from the 200 block of S. Cedar St. was investigated. Two drivers were warned for equipment violations.

Thursday — The welfare of a resident of the 100 block of Elm St. was checked. An accident in the 1000 block of E. Main St. occurred on private property. Several letters about lawns that needed mowing were delivered. Three drivers were warmed fpr speeding or equipment violations.

Friday — Police helped a slow-moving turtle across Main St. A noninjury accident in the 300 block of S. Freeborn St. was investigated. A driver was cited for going 35 mph in a 20-mph zone at Cedar and Sherman Sts.

Police checked on a person sleeping in a vehicle in the 500 block of E. Main St. A suspicious person reported to be on S. Commercial St. was not located.

Police jump-started a vehicle in the 400 block of Arbor St. Two separate scams were reported, but no losses had occurred. A vehicle that was the subject of a driving complaint near Main and Lincoln Sts. was not located.

Saturday — A resident reported a possible burglary, but nothing was taken. A driver was cited for going 34 mph in a 20-mph zone near Main and 5th Sts. A delayed report of possibly impaired driver was received, but the driver’s vehicle was not located. A vehicle in the Industrial Park was investigated.

Sunday — A driver was warned for an equipment violation.
