ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
April 14 — A bicycle reported stolen from the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. was found by police at Hillsboro High School and returned to its owner. Police stood by during a civil matter in the 200 block of S. Washington St. A resident complained about speeding vehicles on S. Ash St. Another person had a question about parking at Tabor College.
April 15 — Police helped with an investigation by the Department of Children and Families and talked to a resident about a civil matter.
April 16 — A vehicle reported to be improperly driving on the city’s walking path turned out to be driven by a city employee working on the path. A large bucket was removed from the eastbound lane of US-56 at Jade Rd. Police discussed active-shooter training at Container Services and did a background check for a food-vendor permit. A vehicle reportedly driving recklessly on US-56 coming from Lehigh was not found. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter.
Thursday — A dog was reported loose in the 600 block of S. Washington St. A dead animal was removed from the 300 block of E. D St. Police checked city streetlights.
Friday — An aggressive dog reported in the 300 block of N. Madison St. was being corralled by its owner when police arrived. A resident reported damage to a vehicle, but no offense report was released. A driver was ticketed for running a stop sign on E. D St.
Saturday — A break-in and theft was reported at a storage unit in the 300 block of N. Birch St. A driver was ticketed for running a stop sign at D and Madison Sts. Another was warned for making an improper turn at D and Lincoln Sts. A suspicious vehicle reported at C and Washington Sts. was not found.
Sunday — A vehicle reportedly being driven recklessly in the Alexanderwohl Church parking lot was gone by the time police and sheriff’s deputies arrived. Drivers were warned for speeding in the 300 block of S. Cedar St. and for having a white light on the rear of a vehicle in the 500 block of E. D St.
MARION
April 14 — A young girl visiting a friend in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. was treated at St. Luke Hospital for what was described as a minor dog bite after accidentally kicking a family pet while playing on a swing set. Another dog loose in the 400 block of Walnut St. was taken to a veterinary clinic. Police also received an animal complaint in the 300 block of N. 3rd St. Drivers were ticketed for having no insurance near Main and Elm Sts. and Main and 1st Sts. after respectively being warned for having a defective license tag light and not using headlights.
April 15 — Police talked to a resident of the 100 block of N. 4th St. about a scam, but no offense report was released. Police and a sheriff’s deputy made an unspecified traffic stop near Main and 1st St.
April 16 — Drivers were warned for running a stop sign at Main and 3rd St. and for having a defective headlight near US-56 and Cedar St. No problems were found in checking on a resident of the 200 block of E. Santa Fe St.
Thursday — A driver was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop for having a defective license plate light on US-56. A driver was ticketed for speeding and having no liability insurance near US-56 and Cedar St. Other drivers were warned for speeding on US-56 near Timber Rd. and for failing to signal at Main and Roosevelt Sts.
Friday — A dog loose in the 300 block of Elm St. and two more loose in the 1100 block of E. Main St. were taken to a veterinary clinic. Criminal damage caused by break-ins in the 600 block of N. Roosevelt St. remains under investigation with no reports yet released. A driver was warned for not using headlights near Main and Roosevelt Sts.
Saturday — A hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. remains under investigation with no report yet released. A driver was warned for having a defective license plate light near Main and Thorp Sts.
Sunday — Drivers were warned for running a stop sign at Main and 3rd Sts. and for having defective tag lights and headlights at Main and Roosevelt Sts. and twice near US-56 and Cedar St.
