Senior food box program comes to county

Low income seniors age 60 and above are eligible to apply for monthly food boxes to supplement their nutritional needs.

Packages include a variety of foods, such as nonfat dry milk, juice, farina, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, poultry, or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables.

Registration appointments will be available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 25 at Marion County Food Bank, 1220 E. Main St., Marion.

Interested seniors must provide proof of ID, proof of income, and proof of address at the time of application. Monthly income guidelines to qualify are $1,316 for a single-person household, with each additional person adding $468.

The boxes are provided through USDA Commodity Supplemental Food Progam. Marion County Food Bank, Marion Advancement Campaign, and Kansas Food Bank are partnering sponsors.
