Track season nears finish line; regionals next

This is the last week for track and field. Regionals will begin May 16 and 17.

Hillsboro

The Trojans’ girls team placed fifth and boys sixth, out of eight schools Thursday at the Hesston Varsity Invitational.

Emily Gilkey won in the girls high jump. Seth Driggers won first in the boys long jump. Abbigail Williams won in the girls shot put, and Addison Jost was first in the girls 800 run.

Hillsboro’s last track meet of the regular season will be Thursday in Lindsborg.

Centre

Centre’s girls placed fifth place Thursday at the Steve Hermann Invitational Herington.

Their 57 points scored were the most points by a Centre girls team at an invitational since 2014.

Kaitlynn Bina won in the 1600 and 3200 run. Olivia Carlson won place in the 100 hurdles and placed third in the long jump. Jimena Sanchez was second in the 400, and Allie Stuchlik was third in the 1600 and 3200 run.

The Centre boys placed last as a team, but Samuel Rziha was a medalist, placing fifth in the 400. Micah Carlson was right behind him. Gentri Holub placed fifth in Javelin.

Centre will travel Thursday to Solomon for its last meet of the regular season.

Marion

The Warriors track team traveled to Remington for an invitational Friday

Luke Wessel won the 800 run. Kenna Wesner won the triple jump and placed second in the long jump.

Dylan Kraus was second in the 400. Brian Nguyen was second in discus. Jesse Snyder was second in triple jump. Taryn Kraus was second in 300 hurdles. And Madisyn Hulett was second in shot put.

The boys 400 relay team of Jesse Snyder, Wyatt Soyez, Jonathan Frese, and Luke Wessel finished second. The boys 800 relay team of Eli Klenda, Harrison Beery, Zayden Janzen, and Owen White finished third.

The girls 400 relay team of Dylan Kraus, Addison Cooper, Kenna Wesner, and Taryn Kraus also placed third.

“We had a very good day at Remington, setting 12 personal records on the girls side, and nine on the boys side,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

Marion will travel to Moundridge for its last meet of the regular season Friday.

Peabody-Burns

Athletes from Peabody-Burns competed at the Steve Hermann invitational on Thursday in Herington.

Adyson Winter placed fifth in the 300 hurdles. Sarah Winfrey was fifth in the 800 and sixth in the 1600. Max Turner was 10th in discus and shot put.

Peabody-Burns will be traveling to Solomon on Thursday for its final meet of the regular season.

Goessel

Goessel did not have a meet within this past week. The Bluebirds’ last meet of the regular season will be Thursday at Solomon.
