Hillsboro will send two girls to the state tennis tournament Friday in Salina.
Claire Morey and Brooklyn Thiessen won their final doubles match of the day Friday at regionals in Topeka, finishing third overall.
“They have been a great No. 1 doubles team for us all season,” coach Gallagher Martin said, “so it is great to see them rewarded with a trip to state,”
“Their chemistry on and off the court is fantastic. They are both talented players, and they complement each other very well.
Competition will continue Saturday at the Salina Tennis Center.
“Our other doubles team of senior Maylee Hardey and Abby Beavers were one win away from also going to state,” Martin said. “It is very tough to come up just short, especially Maylee, who has also been a wonderful senior.”
Sophomore Emerson Wesner and freshman Abi Suderman lost their first match, eliminating them from the tournament
“But they both battled extremely hard against good players,” Martin said, “and both those kids have bright futures for our tennis program.”
