Warriors, Trojans prepare for showdown

Both Marion and Hillsboro boys won games this week in preparation for their showdown next Tuesday in Hillsboro.
Marion
The Warriors swept two games from Canton-Galva at home Thursday, winning 15-0 and 7-2.
In the first game, Carson Krause pitched a no-hitter.
In the second game, Kevon Jones and Jameson Looper pitched, and Jones was credited with the victory.
“We pitched it pretty well, and our defense did a pretty good job as a whole,” coach Roger Schroeder said. “Offensively we gave away a lot of at-bats throughout the day.”
Between both games, Jameson Looper scored five runs. Lander Smith and Lane Smith both scored four each.
“We have to do a better job top to bottom of working out our at-bats, being aggressive to our strengths early in the count, and just competing better with two strikes to put a ball in play,” Schroeder said.
Friday will be Marion’s last regular season home game. The Warriors will face Inman.
Hillsboro boys
The Trojans split a doubleheader Thursday against Halstead, losing the first game 14-4, but winning the second 6-1.
Both Zayne Haslett and Nash Dickinson pitched in the second game and held Halstead to one run.
Hillsboro scored six runs from only three hits.
Before the Trojans host the Warriors, they will be at home Friday against Hoisington.
Hillsboro girls
Hillsboro girls dropped two Thursday to Halstead, losing 15-1 and 27-3.
“They are probably the best team in our league and might be the best team we see all season,” coach Alyssa Kroeker said.
Cassidy Bernhardt scored two runs between both games and was the lone scorer for Hillsboro in the first game.
Abby Beavers and Kinsley Watts both scored a run in the second game.
“Cassidy Bernhardt has really been doing well,” Kroeker said. “She went 4-for-5 on Thursday and threw out two runners from behind the plate.
“Abby Beavers is also doing well. She went 3-for-5 and has been really solid at shortstop.
“Cheyanne Plenert has started most of our varsity games as our pitcher. She has been working hard to refine her skills and improve her accuracy, and some nights she pitches over 200 pitches.”
The Trojans will play at home Friday against Hoisington.
Because Marion does not have a softball team this year, the Hillsboro girls will play against Inman on Tuesday while the Hillsboro boys play Marion.
