Church choirs of the town have planned an evening of music at the Methodist church. Included will be special numbers by various organizations. All will unite in singing old Christmas songs.

We have heard nothing but commendation for the way the play “Charley’s Aunt” was presented Friday evening by the senior class. A feature worth mentioning is that only one week was spent in preparation. The parts were assigned less than a week before the performance.

We had an item a short time ago about upland corn that mentioned Al Nienstedt’s yield of 50 bushels to the acre. We’ve heard of another field that beats that. C.W. Kline got 56 bushels to the acre, from 12 acres of upland. His corn was of the “Bloody Butcher” variety. The top of the kernel is yellow, but the point is deep red.

The Daniels residence on N. Walnut St. was destroyed last Tuesday evening. No one was at home. By the time fire was discovered it had gotten such a start that nothing could be saved.

A meeting at Youngtown last Thursday evening to discuss oil and gas was well attended, and much interest was shown. Leases are being secured east and south of Marion, and chances are good for some prospecting
