Marion County Public Safety and Law Enforcement Center Committee voted last week to disband, saying it had achieved its mandate of recommending how to replace the county jail.

The burden of what to do about the jail now is on county commissioners.

Darin Neufeld has chosen Marion to set up shop for his engineering company — Evans, Bierly, Hutchinson, and Associates. He said he was lured to Marion mainly because of its school system.

Josh and Brianna Moffet soon will be leaving their home in Lincolnville for duty in Iraq. Josh will begin his third tour there, and Brianna will begin her second.

The Moffets met during their first tour in 2005, when they were stationed in Kuwait. She was a Humvee driver, and he was its gunner.

This time, danger is not what worries them most. This time, they will be leaving three young daughters with Brianna’s aunt in Louisiana.

Warren Fike and Jim Donahue received rocking chairs Saturday at Tampa State Bank’s hog roast. The two recently retired from the bank’s board of directors. Fike served for almost 20 years, and Donahue for 35.
