Hundreds of explosives were taken from Martin-Marietta quarries sometime between Sept. 28 and Monday, the Marion County sheriff’s department reports. Taken were 299 sticks of dynamite and 544 blasting caps.

Sheriff Davies warns that anyone who sees anything resembling a blasting cap or dynamite stick should notify authorities immediately and move well clear of the item.

Candidates for 1994 Centre homecoming queen and king are Jill Brunner, Cicely Carlson, Jennea Falen, Spencer Hedstrom, Brian Pagenkopf, Meggan Silhan, Jake Tindle, and Luke Utting. Queen and king will be crowned at 6:50 p.m. before Centre’s football game with White City.

Joyce Duke ended 34½ years with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Marion on Friday. In all that time, she had only two bosses, Edward Stenzel and current director Bill Harmon.

The girls’ junior varsity volleyball tournament Saturday will be the first official event in Marion Elementary School gymnasium. The gym is designed for two matches at the same time.

Participating teams will be Marion, Chase County, Peabody, Berean Academy, Remington, and Herington.
