A clock, handmade by C.E. Coleman, a resident at Marion County Lake, is being offered as a fundraiser for the Chat and Dine Club. It will be awarded Nov. 12 during the club’s annual arts and crafts fair at Marion County Lake hall.

Florence Middle School students Jesse Branson, Justin Hett, Jenny Lundgren, Jessica Moore, Erin O’Dell, and Dustin Sharp received incentive awards for the first nine weeks of school. Students are recognized for attendance, grades, and citizenship.

Special celebrations reported this week include birthdays of Charles Winkley, 80, and Hope Spain, 85; the 80th anniversary of Athena Study Club; the 65th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hett; and the 50th anniversaries of Marion and Tampa high school classes of 1944.

Marion-Florence Recreation sponsors weekend soccer games, which provide children with exercise and a chance to do something other than watch cartoons. Students pictured playing soccer are Jessica Bernhardt, Travis Hett, Josh Kelsey, and Scott Pennington.
