Larry Loomis became president and chief executive officer of Marion National Bank this week. Matt Classen has been president since 1964 and is cutting back his duties as he prepares for retirement. Loomis has been with the bank since 1977.

A miscellaneous bridal shower Feb. 19 complimented Stephanie Burkholder, bride-elect of Larry McLain. Hostesses were Marge Christensen, Feebie Holdeman, Norma Kline, Randee Loomis, Janie Meierhoff, Karen Regnier, and Suzanne Thole.

Marion High School senior Aaron Helmer has been selected as student of the month by the faculty. His parents are Marsha and Darrel Helmer of Marion.

Bill Holdeman has opened a barber shop at 412 E. Main St. in Marion. Holdeman lives in Marion but has been operating a barber shop in Newton for years.

Thousands of feet of pipe are stacked under Marion’s east water tower as Nowak Construction crews begin work digging trenches and laying pipe. The project will provide treated water from the city of Marion to residents at Marion County Lake.
