Peabody-Burns wins regional

Marion and Hillsboro football teams will be playing for regional titles Friday night. Peabody-Burns already won its regional Tuesday.
Peabody-Burns
The top-seeded Warriors had a bye Friday before facing fifth-seed Leroy-Southern Coffey County for the regional championship Tuesday.
The game was called at half, with Peabody-Burns winning 54-0.
The next opponent for the Warriors will be determined Friday between Tescott and Chetopa. Sectional play is scheduled for Nov. 14.
Peabody-Burns has beaten Chetopa 51-6 this season but lost 39-8 to Tescott in the first game of the season.
Hillsboro
The Trojans defense willed its way to a one-point victory Friday night over Ellsworth, winning 18-17.
Ellsworth jumped to a quick 14-0 start in the first quarter after a Hillsboro fumble, but Trojans quarterback Zayne Haslett found Braxton Hiebert in the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown before the quarter was over.
An 86-yard run by Jesiah Gooch in the second quarter had the Trojans only down by five at halftime, 17-12.
Haslett took off in the third for a 32-yard touchdown run that gave the lead for good.
The Trojans’ defense blocked a field goal attempt by Ellsworth in the fourth, but offense turned back over on downs.
Hillsboro gets hit with pass interference that took Ellsworth within 10 yards of the end zone in the final minutes of the game.
The Trojans stopped all three attempts at a touchdown, leading Ellsworth to attempt a field goal for the victory with seconds left on the clock.
The attempt wasn’t blocked, but defensive pressure was enough for the kicker to miss.
Hillsboro (6-3) will hit the road Friday to face off against the No. 2 seed Hoisington (8-0) in regional competiton.
Marion
Marion beat Salina-Sacred Heart 20-12 on the road Friday to advance in regional competition.
Wyatt Soyez rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Jameson Looper rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown.
Hitch Soyez held it down on defense with nine tackles. Looper, Jackson Howard, and Jordy Raymer all caught Sacred Heart’s quarterback for a sack.
The Warriors (7-2) will put their season and three-game winning streak on the line this Friday as they travel to face No. 1 seed Sterling (9-0) in regional competition.
Goessel
The Bluebirds’ football season ended in Week 9 with a game against Southern Sumner.
Bigger players from Caldwell took control early and led 22-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bluebird offense struggled in the second quarter, and Goessel trailed 36-0 at half-time.
A fumble recovered by Claudio Flores gave the Bluebirds hope, but they were unable to convert on fourth down, turning the ball back to the Outlaws.
Flores ended up with the football on defense and sprinted 70 yards for a touchdown only to have it called back because of a penalty.
The game came to an end with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter with the score 50-0.
The Bluebird season ended with a record of 1-8.
