Jim Richmond, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Richmond, received confirmation this week that he won a $500 consolation prize on the NBC-TV program “What’s This Song?” Jim had hoped to win a portable television set offered as another prize.

Jerry Dieter, who soon will receive his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Kansas, has been employed by Sinclair Research at Harvey, Illinois. He has been assigned to the Petrochemicals Division, which is involved in research.

Championship flight in the annual two-day Labor Day weekend tournament at Marion Country Club was won by Rosse Case with a score of 146. He also won the longest drive prizes on both days. A total of 20 golfers participated.

Mrs. Darrell Weigart wasn’t present when her name was drawn for a $200 prize in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Dennis Tajchman, Ramona, missed $5; W. H. Blackim, Marion, received $25; Henry Schimpf, Marion, missed $5; and Mrs. Clayton Hamm, Marion, received $35.

“Ol’ 23,” a worked-over hot rod owned and operated by Wayne Graybeal and Bob Konarik, has been doing well lately. The hot rod and Graybeal took second place in a trophy dash over the weekend at Junction City and went on to win the feature event in the evening.

They plan to return to race in Junction City this Saturday. There also will be a women’s race that evening. Either Margie Graybeal or Mary Konarik will pilot the car.
