Selection of the two Marion High School delegates to the annual Boys State at Wichita is announced this week. The boys, both juniors at MHS, are Warren Gardner and John Minear. Alternates chosen were Jon Thole and Roland Vogel.

Margaret McClain invited four friends for dinner Saturday evening at Kingfisher’s Inn to celebrate her birthday. Places were marked for Margie Bernhardt, Mary Lou Conyers, Maxine Hinz, and Elda Pankratz.

The seventh grade honored the eighth grade with a banquet Friday evening in the school lunchroom. John Christensen was toastmaster. A welcome was given by Pat Longhofer. Jim Williams gave a response for the eighth grade. The program included a piano solo by Patricia Funk and talks by A.W. Haizlip, Eileen Pavey, and R. Wm. Wygle.

Anna Linn was the only winner present at this week’s Cash Day drawing. She received $10. Not present to collect their prizes were Mrs. Alvin Schick of Ramona and Ruth M. Ayler, Leonard Klassen, and Marian Phillips Thatcher of Marion. First prize next week will be $210.

Fire early Friday morning northwest of town destroyed a brooder house and 200 three-week-old chicks belonging to Dale Vogel. Heat lamps in the brooder house were the cause of the fire, which threatened other buildings but was prevented from spreading with the help of neighbors.
