Summer ended abruptly Friday morning, and people awoke to find a blanket of snow covering everything.

James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion once again this year will celebrate Armistice Day with a carnival in the basement of the Marion City Building.

The congregation of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion is celebrating its 50th anniversary this Sunday. Three services are among the events planned.

An article written by Homer Socolofsky, history instructor at Kansas State College and a Marion High School graduate, has been published in Kansas Historical Quarterly.

The article, “The Scully Land System in Marion County,” tells of William Scully, owner of the largest acreage of farmland in the United States.

Billie Herbert and Carmen Siebert entertained with a pirate gold treasure hunt and Halloween costume party Tuesday evening at the Herbert home. Kay Navrat won a prize for the best costume. Guests were girls in the 7th grade.

Twenty-five officers attended an invitational pistol shoot Sunday in Marion. Organizations represented included Newton, Hillsboro, and Marion police departments and Hutchinson and Newton highway patrol units. Prizes were awarded to L.W. VanHorne, Marion; Fred Michaels, Hillsboro; and Kenneth Roberts, Hutchinson.
