REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

HIGHWAY PATROL

US-56/77 near 270th Rd.

As is reported elsewhere in this issue, Kendall L. Harding, 29, Lost Springs, was killed in a head-on collision with a semi-trailer truck at 1 p.m. Monday on US-56/77 just north of 270th Rd.

Harding was northbound on US-56/77 when his 2019 Ram 1500 veered for some reason into the southbound lane.

The pickup collided head-on with a 2023 Peterbilt driven by Jason P. Mathews, 36, Garnett. Mathews suffered no apparent injury, according to KHP.

Firefighters from Lincolnville, Marion, and Herington responded as did Tampa, Hillsboro, and Marion ambulances.

SHERIFF

US-56 west of Alamo Rd.

Ethan D. Partlow, 19, Hutchinson, spun a 2021 Mack semi-trailer truck onto its side on icy roads at 11:35 a.m. Jan. 4, according to one of six reports released Friday, nearly two weeks after the wreck.

Partlow was listed as possibly being injured but was not taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The semi, owned by Amcon of Omaha, sustained disabling damage to its left side and was towed.

Deputy Aaron Christner blamed the accident on Partlow driving too fast for conditions. No tickets were listed as being issued.

Indigo Rd. north of 70th Rd.

Jarrett W. Loftin, 18, Groveton, Texas, slid a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado off the left side of an ice-covered roadway at 2 p.m. Jan. 4.

The pickup, owned by Kenneth Loftin of the same address, struck a signpost and culvert and rolled completely over, coming to rest on its wheels.

It sustained disabling damage to its roof, hood, windshield, and other windows and was towed.

Deputy Aaron Christner blamed the accident on driving too fast for conditions. No tickets were listed as being issued.

Remington Rd. north of 230th Rd.

Rustyn M. Kerbs, 31, Tampa, hit a deer at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 with his 2013 Nissan Altima, which remained drivable with damage to its front and hood.

190th Rd. west of Mustang Rd.

Douglas D. Ludwig, 67, Florence, lost control of a 2011 International snowplow and rolled it onto its side after its right front wheel dropped off pavement at 8:39 a.m. Jan. 11 while he was clearing snow.

The county-owned truck sustained disabling damage to its windshield and entire left side and was towed.

The accident was blamed on road conditions.

Remington Rd. south of 270th Rd.

Michael W. Silhan, 20, rural Marion, lost control of his unlicensed 2021 Polaris Cyclone on an icy roadway at 7:11 a.m. Jan. 12.

The ATV crossed the centerline and flipped onto its side in a ditch. It sustained disabling damage to its left side and top and was towed.

No cause was cited, and no tickets were listed as being issued.

K-15 north of 70th Rd.

A chunk of ice fell from a passing semi-trailer at 1:38 p.m. Jan. 14, striking a northbound 2013 Volvo S80 owned and driven by Jeffrey L. Herzet, 55, Marion.

The Volvo sustained damage to its undercarriage and was towed.

MARION

Marion Elementary parking area

Keri M. Collett, 36, Marion, backed her 2013 Toyota Sienna into a 2013 Dodge Durango that had stopped at 3:15 p.m. Jan. 13 to allow Collect to back out of a parking space.

Damage to the rear of Collett’s Toyota and the front of the Durango, owned and driven by Morgan Makovec, 29, Marion, was characterized as minor.

Interim chief Zach Hudlin blamed the accident, which occurred on a wet but not icy road, on inattentive driving by Collett. No tickets were listed as being issued.

The report possibly erroneously states that Makovec was westbound and Collett was eastbound at the time.
