REPORTED
These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
K-150 west of Zebulon Rd.
Jonas L. Greenway, 40, Bronson, hit a deer at 3:35 p.m. March 26 with a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, according to one of six accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s department.
The truck, owned by Mid-Continental Restoration of Fort Scott, remained drivable with damage to its front and hood.
US-77 south of 170th Rd.
Andrew R. Campbell, 37, Colorado Springs, hit a deer at 8:14 p.m. March 26 with his 2021 Nissan Armada.
The SUV remained drivable with damage to its right and undercarriage.
Coble St. south of Kellison St., Marion
Two cars backing onto Coble St. from driveways across the street from each other collided at 10 a.m. March 29.
A 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe owned by Wheels LT and driven by Stuart Meador, 67, Marion, hit a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica owned and driven by Roman B. Hofer, 41, Marion, who already had backed into the street.
A report by deputy Bruce Burke, filling in for Marion police, blamed the collision on inattentive driving by Meador, but no tickets were listed as being issued.
Passengers in Hofer’s car were identified as Rebecca M. Hofer, 40; Isaiah N. Hofer, 13; Hadassah M. Hofer, 12; and Peyton G. Overton, 9.
Damage to the rear of both vehicles was characterized as minor.
Washington Ave. south of Main St., Burns
Anthony J. Huls, 22, Burns, drove his 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup onto Washington Ave. at 2:19 p.m. March 28 and into a 2015 Toyota Venza already southbound on the street.
Both the pickup and the car, owned and driven by Derrick C. Bell, 43, El Dorado, remained drivable with damage to the pickup’s left front and undercarriage and to the car’s right front and undercarriage.
Deputy Bruce Burke’s report blamed the wreck on Huls failing to yield and driving inattentively, but no tickets were listed as being issued.
Indigo Rd. north of 160th Rd.
Marlin R. Regehr, 66, rural Hillsboro, hit a deer at 8:19 p.m. March 31 with his 2018 Hyundai Tucson.
Damage to the right front of the SUV was characterized as minor.
Marcia K. Regehr, 69, of the same address was a passenger.
US-56/77 south of 270th Rd.
Two adults and two children were taken to St. Luke Hospital after their northbound SUV was rear-ended at 8:20 p.m. Thursday by another northbound SUV attempting to avoid a deer.
Driver Tianna H. Hyder, 32, and passenger Kathia Mendez-Hyder, 7, of St. George and passengers Micco R. Hernandez, 32, and Aiden Hernandez, 11, of Wichita all were in a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander that struck the rear of a 2019 Toyota Rav4 that driver Brandon G. Gadeken, 24, Bradenton, Florida, had attempted to stop to avoid the deer.
Hyder’s SUV sustained disabling damage to its front third and was towed. Gadeken’s SUV remained drivable with damage to its rear.
Deputy Clayton Philpott blamed the wreck, in order, on the deer, on Gadeken’s avoidance action, and on Hyder following too closely and driving inattentively. No tickets were listed as being issued.
HILLSBORO
200 block of S. Washington St.
Amy C. Crawford, 53, Newton, backed a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica out of a driveway at 3:15 p.m. Thursday and into a legally parked 2008 Nissan Altima.
Damage to the rear of the Chrysler, owned by Rescare of Newton, was characterized as minor. The Nissan, owned by Tiffany Funk, remained drivable with more significant damage to its driver’s side.
Jessica E. Peugh, 47, Peabody; Mandy Johnson, 35, Marion; and Randie Hoskins, 36, Newton, were passengers in the Chrysler.
Assistant chief Randal Brazil’s report blames the wreck on improper backing. No tickets were listed as being issued.
200 block of N. Main St.
Backing out of a parking space at the Hillsboro post office at 3:10 p.m. March 31, Joanne Vogel, 73, Hillsboro, drove her 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer into a car entering the parking lot.
The 2013 Chrysler Town and Country, owned and driven by Nancy L. Gibson, 66, rural Hillsboro, sustained damage characterized as minor to a front bumper cover. Vogel’s Chevrolet sustained minor damage to a rear hitch.
