Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MARCH 24

7:22 a.m. — Fire in a ditch three miles north of the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout on US-56/77 was extinguished within 30 minutes by Marion firefighters.

12:24 p.m. — An 80-year-old man who fell at Citizens State Bank in Goessel and hurt his hand and head was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders arrived within five minutes and cared for the patient until the ambulance arrived 13 minutes later.

2:53 p.m. — Fifty gallons of diesel fuel that spilled from a truck at Ampride in Hillsboro was rendered safe in less than an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

5:56 p.m. — A 62-year-old man with unspecified symptoms was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

MARCH 25

12:46 p.m. — A 43-year-old man vomiting and having trouble seeing after felling in the 300 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:24 p.m. — A 74-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke at Crofoot Chiropractic in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Despite having only one attendant available, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro until 2:12 p.m. in case of additional calls.

3:08 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to a fight at Westview Manor in Peabody and took one unspecified patient to NMC.

4:19 p.m. — Fire in several hundred yards of hedge row off Nighthawk Rd. between 100th and 110th Rds. was extinguished within an hour and a half by Marion, Florence, and Peabody firefighters. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched but did not remain at the fire. County emergency managers also responded.

THURSDAY

1:57 a.m. — A 49-year-old woman with abdominal pain, dizziness, and nausea at a home in the 200 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance.

5:59 a.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulances were dispatched along with Marion and Hillsboro firefighters to a fiery head-on fatality accident between a pickup and a semi-trailer truck on US-56 east of Remington Rd. / K-256. The county emergency manager also responded. A driver trapped in a burning pickup was pronounced dead at 6:14 a.m.

2:03 p.m. — A sparking transformer in the 200 block of W. 3rd St. in Florence was monitored by Florence firefighters until an Evergy electric crew arrived.

3:04 p.m. — Marion firefighters returned along with county emergency managers and environmental health officers to US-56 and K-256 / Remington Rd. to remove debris and spilled oil from the roadway.

10:26 p.m. — A 2-month-old boy who fell was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

11:09 p.m. — Fire within a dryer vent struck by lightning at a farmhouse near 50th and Quail Creek Rds. was extinguished in less than an hour by Peabody, Burns, and Florence firefighters. Hillsboro ambulance also responded but was turned back before it arrived.

FRIDAY

6:40 a.m. — A driver involved in a wreck on US-50 near Alfalfa Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Florence firefighters also responded.

9:40 a.m. — A 75-year-old man who told dispatchers he was having trouble breathing and might be having a heart attack at a home in the 500 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:38 a.m. — A 65-year-old woman with abdominal pain at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

2:48 p.m. — A 75-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

SATURDAY

No emergency dispatches.

SUNDAY

8:27 a.m. — A 91-year-old man suspected of suffering a stroke at a home in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Opting instead to go by private vehicle.

11:54 a.m. — A 94-year-old woman with chest pains and shortness of breath at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

12:41 p.m. — Fire at the Hillsboro municipal tree dump was brought under control within an hour and a half by Hillsboro firefighters, who continued to monitor remaining burning logs throughout the day.

3:39 p.m. — A 59-year-old woman with chest pains was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

8:43 p.m. — Despite 20 minutes of searching, Tampa, Ramona, Lost Springs, and Lincolnville firefighters could not find what was reported by federal aviation authorities via police as a “very large” grass fire near 290th and Quail Creek Rds.

MONDAY

7:50 a.m. — A 72-year-old woman complaining of pain after a weekend fall at a farmhouse near 150th and K-15 was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

1:31 p.m. — A 26-year-old man who fell and hit his head in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:13 p.m. — Ramona and Tampa firefighters helped fight a structure fire at 400 Ave. and Hawk Rd. in Dickinson County for nearly two hours.

5:09 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman on hospice care was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Parkside Homes.

8:27 p.m. — A 65-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance after relatives in Georgia called dispatchers about the fall.

10:16 p.m. — A 98-year-old man who suffered a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.
