Services for Dennis Lyle Klein, 85, who died Thursday at Hillsboro Community Hospital, were Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa.

Born Oct. 19, 1938, in Hillsboro to Gotfrey “Skeeter” and Martha (Koch) Klein, he was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Durham, and confirmed there in 1952.

He was an active member of the Missouri Synod church, serving as treasurer, usher, church and yard cleaner, and maintenance worker.

He attended Warren Country School through eighth grade and graduated from high school in 1958 in Durham. He attended what is now Emporia State University for a year.

Drafted into the Army in 1961, he spent two years on active duty, one of them in Germany.

Upon returning, he farmed with his father and two uncles, Dave and Eddie, who made up the Klein Brothers farming operation.

Survivors include sisters Sharon Mueller of McPherson and Connie Vajnar of Newton.

Memorials have been established with St. John’s and Salem Home.
