Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JULY 23
12:14 a.m. — A 31-year-old man with low hemoglobin was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:21 a.m.
1:10 p.m. — A person injured in a collision of a tractor and a semi-trailer truck on K-14 between 240th and 250th Rds. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:32 p.m. Hillsboro firefighters washed down leaking fuel. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched but was told to stand down before it arrived. The county ambulance director, emergency manager, and environmental health officer also responded.
4:10 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman having problems with new medications was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from a farmhouse near 230th and Indigo Rds.
JULY 24
11:24 a.m. — A Hillsboro firefighter was asked to go to the Hillsboro ambulance station to help lift, but the request was canceled before the firefighter arrived.
3:05 p.m. — A 33-year-old man scheduled for gall bladder surgery was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:15 p.m.
8:10 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance examined two patients at the county fair rodeo, but both declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
4:08 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman who fell and cut her head on steps in the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:26 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman with a kidney injury was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:55 p.m.
7:04 p.m. — Fire that spread beyond a burn pit and into a hedge row near 110th and Chisholm Trail Rds. was extinguished within 20 minutes by Goessel firefighters.
10:46 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman who hurt her knee at a farmhouse near 175th and Jade Rds. was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:06 a.m.
FRIDAY
3:57 a.m. — Herington’s fire chief radioed Marion County dispatchers to ask Ramona, Lost Springs, and Lincolnville firefighters to help fight at structure fire on 300th Ave. near Kohls Creek, southwest of Herington in Dickinson County. After six pages, only two firefighters from Ramona responded. They spent 2½ hours at the fire.
9:18 a.m. — A 95-year-old woman with head and neck pain at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
11:07 p.m. — A 41-year-old man with low blood sugar was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Teresa. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:05 a.m.
SATURDAY
7:10 a.m. — A 46-year-old man having chest pains at Marion County Jail declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
2:57 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman who fell at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
6:11 p.m. — An 83-year-old man with heart problems who almost fainted at a home in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
6:49 p.m. — Fire in a pickup at a car wash near the county fairgrounds in Hillsboro was extinguished within 45 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.
10:54 p.m. — An 83-year-old man earlier taken to St. Luke was transferred by Marion ambulance to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:34 a.m.
SUNDAY
6:40 a.m. — A hay bale burning after a lightning strike along US-50 near Bluestem Rd. was extinguished after an hour by Florence firefighters.
5:30 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by EagleMed helicopter to Wesley.
10:48 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman who fell at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was helped up by Peabody police and firefighters. Hillsboro ambulance also was called but was told to stand down before it arrived.
MONDAY
1:50 a.m. — A 40-year-old woman with stomach pain and vomiting in the 400 block of Barker St. in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:09 a.m.
9:16 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was paged to help an uninjured 33-year-old man who fell in a bathroom at Westview Manor in Peabody. At an ambulance attendant’s suggestion, Peabody firefighters also were paged. They helped lift the patient, and the call to Hillsboro ambulance was canceled before the ambulance arrived.
3:02 p.m. — A asthmatic 63-year-old woman having trouble breathing at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:34 p.m. — A 73-year-old man with 12 days of bowel obstruction at Westview Manor in Peabody was transferred to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:20 p.m.
9:41 p.m. — A 39-year-old man with abdominal pain while undergoing hospice care at a residence in the 600 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
