Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

SEPT. 10

12:07 a.m. — An uninjured 88-year-old man at Marion Assisted Living was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants and firefighters. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:46 p.m. — An unconscious person involved in a one-vehicle semi-trailer accident on US-50 near Quail Creek Rd. was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The county ambulance director also responded. Florence and Peabody firefighters were dispatched, but Florence firefighters, who were paged first, later were told to disregard the call. A medical helicopter also was called, but that call also was canceled. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:01 p.m.

5:25 p.m. — A 96-year-old man with low blood pressure at a residence in the 600 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance after being helped instead into a private vehicle.

10:55 p.m. — What appeared to be the same patient, suffering from severe anemia, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley from Hillsboro Community Hospital.

SEPT. 11

1:12 a.m. — Still returning from Wesley, Hillsboro ambulance was sent back to HCH to transfer a 42-year-old man with alcoholic ketoacidosis to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center but returned to its station at 1:46 a.m. without transferring the patient.

2:39 a.m. — A 102-year-old woman who fell and became stuck between a toilet and a wall at Marion Assisted Living was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:21 a.m. — Lost Springs firefighters washed items off an undisclosed roadway.

11:23 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with an unspecified medical condition was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:58 a.m.

THURSDAY

10:12 a.m. — A person with neck pain after a one-vehicle accident at 30th and Old Mill Rds. was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody firefighters also were dispatched.

10:35 a.m. — Gas leaking from a meter hit in an alley in the 200 block of S. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro was shut off by Hillsboro firefighters pending arrival of an Atmos Energy crew.

12:43 p.m. — Returning from Newton, Hillsboro ambulance was diverted to a parking lot in the 500 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody, where attendants and Peabody police helped an uninjured person get up after a fall. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.

12:45 p.m. — A medical alarm originating from a farmhouse near 200th and Nighthawk Rds. was determined by Marion ambulance attendants to have been a false alarm.

5:41 p.m. — An ambulance supervisor in the county’s backup ambulance stood by until 7:36 p.m. at a football game at Goessel.

5:53 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 7:31 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro, and Marion ambulance stood by until 7:57 p.m. at a football game in Marion.

FRIDAY

6:45 a.m. — An uninjured 67-year-old woman in the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and Peabody firefighters. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

12:06 p.m. — A 68-year-old man with respiratory distress was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:16 p.m.

2:19 p.m. — A 77-year-old man with trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 240th and Indigo Rds. was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters were paged to help lift the patient but later were told to disregard the call.

5:59 p.m. — A 36-year-old woman drifting in an out of consciousness after taking multiple antihistamines at a house in the 200 block of Circle Dr. in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. A sheriff’s deputy and Florence firefighters also responded to the call.

6:37 p.m. — Standing by during a football game in Goessel, Hillsboro ambulance at 7:52 p.m. took a patient with an orthopedic injury to NMC Health .

7:22 p.m. — Returning its call to Newton, Marion ambulance was dispatched to Hillsboro, where an 11-year-old girl was attacked by a dog while riding her bicycle in front of Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church. The county ambulance director also responded from Marion, but both were told to stand down after the girl was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.

8:26 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance returning from Newton and Marion ambulance filling in for it at the Goessel football game, dispatchers asked either of them to help an 85-year-old man who fell in a bathroom at a farmhouse near 230th and Alfalfa Rds. An ambulance supervisor and Hillsboro ambulance responded to the call northeast of Marion, but the man declined to be taken to a hospital.

SATURDAY

1:12 a.m. — A 69-year-old woman who fell at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

2:59 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched to a rollover accident at US-56 and Kanza Rd., but law enforcement officers determined that the only occupant of the vehicle, an initially incoherent man, had walked to HCH on his own.

6:54 a.m. — A 67-year-old woman with an undisclosed medical condition at a residence in the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance, which was dispatched instead of Hillsboro ambulance on instructions from an ambulance supervisor.

12:05 p.m. — A 59-year-old woman with low sodium levels was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:40 p.m.

5:35 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 9:14 p.m. during a football game at Tabor College in Hillsboro.

6:14 p.m. — A 52-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis from St. Luke to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. Tampa ambulance was paged to stand by until 9:13 p.m. in Hillsboro while Hillsboro ambulance was out of the county

8:27 p.m. — Tampa ambulance was dispatched from Hillsboro to a car-deer accident on US-77 north of 130th Rd., between Florence and Marion. The driver declined to be taken to a hospital.

SUNDAY

10:29 a.m. — After some difficulty finding him, an 18-year-old man with a dislocated shoulder was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from the men’s quad at Tabor College.

MONDAY

2:55 a.m. — A man having trouble breathing at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 5:03 p.m.

7:59 a.m. — An only partially responsive 73-year-old woman who may have suffered a stroke at a residence in the 400 block of E. Santa Fe St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift her.

11:02 a.m. — A 32-year-old woman who suffered a stroke began to be transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley, but the ambulance was called back to St. Luke, and the transfer was canceled, apparently done by helicopter ambulance instead.

2:46 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were asked to help with a medical call for a person having epileptic seizures near 29th Ave. and Chisholm Rd. five miles west of Goessel in McPherson County.

5:48 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 7:58 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro.

5:51 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 7:21 p.m. at a football game in Marion.
