Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MAY 13

7:40 a.m. — Peabody, Marion, and Florence firefighters spent an hour extinguishing a garage fire reportedly started by gasoline in a lawn mower in the 200 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody. Hillsboro ambulance stood by in case of injuries.

8:49 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance shuttled an air ambulance’s flight crew from Hillsboro’s airport to Hillsboro Community Hospital and back.

10:09 a.m. — A fire alarm at a farmhouse on Chisholm Trail Rd. north of 130th Rd. was determined by Goessel firefighters to be a false alarm.

1:17 p.m. — A 72-year-old man with dementia and experiencing weakness after stumbling at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

2:39 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 5:41 p.m. Because Marion ambulance was not fully staffed at the time, Tampa ambulance stood by until 4:20 p.m. in Hillsboro in case of additional calls.

MAY 14

5:27 a.m. — A 90-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 190th and Kanza Rds. was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:57 p.m.

8:49 a.m. — Marion ambulance, Marion firefighters, and a LifeSafe helicopter visited Marion Elementary School for nearly 2½ hours for a school event.

2:34 p.m. — A quarter-acre grass fire reportedly started by shop equipment near 270th and Clover Rds. and threatening a nearby structure was contained within 50 minutes and extinguished 30 minutes after that by Lincolnville and Marion firefighters.

7:37 p.m. — A 16-year-old boy drifting in and out of consciousness after being hit in the neck by a baseball at the Marion ball field was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

8:59 p.m. — Remaining at St. Luke, Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from there to the pediatric section of Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion around midnight .

THURSDAY

2:28 a.m. — A 58-year-old man complaining of foot pain at a camper trailer in the 600 block of Cemetery Ln. in Burns was taken by Marion ambulance to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado. Attendants asked for sheriff’s deputies to respond as well. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:27 a.m.

10:09 a.m. — An 82-year-old man having trouble breathing at Salem Home in Hillsboro was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.

11:51 a.m. — At an off-duty ambulance attendant’s request, Tampa ambulance was sent to join him at a farm near 340th and Pawnee Rds. and take an undescribed patient to Abilene Memorial Hospital. The ambulance returned to Tampa at 2:23 p.m.

12:01 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance informed dispatchers that it would be transferring an appendicitis patient from HCH to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:04 p.m.

1:16 p.m. — An 80-year-old man who fainted outside the Branding Iron restaurant in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

5:41 p.m. — Although Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched, a 71-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:09 p.m.

10:38 p.m. — Although Marion ambulance was dispatched, a 57-year-old woman with excess sodium in her blood was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:32 a.m.

FRIDAY

9:43 a.m. — Marion ambulance attendants searched the house and grounds but could find no patient after being dispatched for a medical alarm at a house near US-56 and Nighthawk Rd.

11:12 a.m. — Although the call initially went to Marion ambulance, a second alarm at the same location was determined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants to have been accidentally triggered by a person riding on a mower.

2 p.m. — Peabody firefighters and Marion, Hillsboro, and a backup ambulance all paid tribute at a funeral in Peabody for retired paramedic Larry Larsen.

11:09 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance attendants helped lift a patient at Parkside Homes.

SATURDAY

4:57 p.m. — An 88-year-old man with a broken hip was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:17 p.m.

8:03 p.m. — A 22-year-old man who fell and hurt his leg after his dog ran into him near US-56 and Bison Rd. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:46 p.m. — A woman her hurt her eye at a farmhouse near 290th and Timber Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance.

SUNDAY

6:27 p.m. — Pea-size hail was reported at Lincolnville.

6:32 p.m. — Quarter-size hail was reported at Ramona.

6:34 p.m. — Marble to quarter-size hail was reported at Herington.

MONDAY

5:27 a.m. — A 75-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Bethesda Home, Goessel, to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:57 a.m.

6:04 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance occupied, Marion ambulance was sent to the 200 block of Buller St. in Goessel for a 75-year-old man with back pain after falling several days earlier. He was taken to Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9 a.m. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

9:10 a.m. — An 80-year-old who briefly became unresponsive while visiting Bethesda Home declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:35 p.m. — A 19-year-old woman with a history of heart problems and her hands turning blue at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:32 p.m.

6:16 p.m. — Pea-size hail was reported at Lincolnville.
