Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
OCT. 28
12:05 a.m. — A reportedly uninjured 71-year-old woman at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was helped up by Hillsboro medics who initially had trouble getting into the apartment building. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
12:59 a.m. — An 85-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at a Parkside Homes duplex in Hillsboro was helped by a Hillsboro ambulance supervisor and taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance, which arrived later.
9:46 p.m. — A 74-year-old man bleeding after pulling off a colostomy bag at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance.
OCT. 29
11:48 a.m. — A fire alarm at Marion Assisted Living was determined to be a false alarm before Marion firefighters arrived.
3:52 p.m. — One of two people involved in an accident two miles north of US-56 on K-15 was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Salina Regional Medical Center. Marion ambulance also was dispatched but was called off before it arrived. Hillsboro firefighters helped direct traffic. No report of the accident has yet been released by the sheriff’s department.
4:59 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance not back from Salina, a weak 87-year-old man with a low blood-oxygen level at Parkside apartments in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Marion ambulance.
8:54 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman with chest and arm pain at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:24 p.m. — An 87-year-old man who fell while attempting to sit down at a farmhouse on 150th Rd. east of Holly Rd. was helped up by Marion medics. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
4:59 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman who fell at a house in the 500 block of W. 1st St. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro medics. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
4 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman who fell and possibly broke an arm at a home in the 100 block of County Rd. in Tampa declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance.
5:12 p.m. — A pregnant 18-year-old suffering seizures at a house in the 900 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.
6:56 p.m. — An unspecified patient at a home on Random Rd. at Marion County Lake was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient.
FRIDAY
10:31 a.m. — An unspecified patient at Salem Home in Hillsboro was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:52 a.m. — A 45-year-old delivery man who collapsed in the 500 block of Locust St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Medics later reported that the man had died. Hillsboro ambulance also responded but was called off before it arrived.
5:13 p.m. — Tampa ambulance left to stand by until 8:04 p.m. at a football game in Goessel.
6:44 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 9:12 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro.
SATURDAY
7:53 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 11:01 a.m. at the Marion County Health Fair in Hillsboro.
1:03 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 3:33 p.m. at a football game at Tabor College.
7:31 p.m. — A 77-year-old man with respiratory distress was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Salina Regional Health Center. Hillsboro ambulance originally was dispatched, but medics changed the assignment to Marion ambulance.
SUNDAY
9:19 a.m. — A person missing from Westview Manor in Peabody was located within 11 minutes, before Peabody firefighters were able to assemble to conduct a search to be directed by a sheriff’s deputy.
10:10 a.m. — A person with stomach pain at Homestead Affordable Housing in Marion was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.
3:31 p.m. — A 71-year-old man with high blood sugar and trouble breathing at a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance.
7:33 p.m. — A 69-year-old man with trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 150th and Kanza Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
MONDAY
10:34 a.m. — A 43-year-old man with dubious stroke symptoms was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Westview Manor to HCH. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
12:26 p.m. — A man who fell and began behaving abnormally at a home in the 600 block of W. Cemetery Ln. in Burns was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders arrived within 14 minutes, asked for a sheriff’s deputy to be dispatched, and provided care until the ambulance arrived eight minutes later. An ambulance supervisor accompanied the Marion medics to Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:58 p.m.
6:20 p.m. — Marion and Lincolnville firefighters left for training until 9:34 p.m. in Herington.
7:13 p.m. — Goessel firefighters trained until 9:34 p.m. at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.
10:13 p.m. — An unspecified person who injured his head in a wreck on 190th Rd. west of K-256 / Remington Rd. was taken to St. Luke by family members instead of by ambulance after being evaluated by Marion medics.
