Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MARCH 31

12:50 p.m. — A fire alarm at Hillsboro Hardware was determined to be a false before Hillsboro firefighters arrived.

1:41 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters monitored burning at a municipal burn pit until 3:55 p.m.

2:47 p.m. — A patient who walked into the Hillsboro ambulance station was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, Newton.

3:07 p.m. — On a physician’s orders, Marion ambulance transferred a 70-year-old woman from Marion Assisted Living to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

5:59 p.m. — A 65-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

8:48 p.m. — At a police officer’s request, Hillsboro firefighters extinguished a fire in what was described as a pile of ashes in an alley in the 200 block of S. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro.

8:53 p.m. — A 71-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to McPherson Center for Health.

10:35 p.m. — An unspecified patient was transferred from HCH to Wesley.

APRIL 1

3:38 p.m. — A controlled burn that grew out of control at 110th and Alfalfa Rds. was brought back under control within 10 minutes by Florence firefighters.

3:56 p.m. — A small fire near train tracks at Wagon Wheel Rd. and US-50 was extinguished within 15 minutes by Florence firefighters.

5:03 p.m. — An 11-year-old found hanging at a home near Marion Reservoir’s Durham Cove was pronounced dead after nearly an hour of cardiopulmonary resuscitation by a caller and Hillsboro ambulance attendants and supervisors.

7:28 p.m. — An unspecified patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC Health.

THURSDAY

11:26 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

2:35 p.m. — A 21-year-old woman who reportedly took 60 pain pills at a home in Ramona was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. An ambulance supervisor and a Herington ambulance also were dispatched but were turned around before they arrived.

8:22 p.m. — Marion, Hillsboro, and Tampa ambulances, a backup ambulance, Lincolnville first responders and firefighters, and Marion rescue squad were dispatched for a two-vehicle accident on US-56/77 at 270th Rd. Marion and Hillsboro ambulances each took an adult and a child to St. Luke.

9 p.m. — A fire reported between Quail Creek and Remington Rds. south of 190th Rd. was not found by Marion firefighters.

FRIDAY

9:50 a.m. — An 85-year-old woman with abdominal pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro to HCH.

10:31 a.m. — A 30-year-old woman trampled by a bull at Spur Ridge Vet Hospital in Marion was taken by a backup ambulance based in Marion to NMC Health.

SATURDAY

11:45 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

2:20 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance attendants and an ambulance supervisor were called to briefly help personnel at HCH.

SUNDAY

5:34 a.m. — A 73-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

MONDAY

12:21 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman who fell at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

7:06 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a 62-year-old woman who fell and was still on the floor at Bethesda Home in Goessel. The nursing home canceled the call and then reinstated it. In the end, the woman was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:35 a.m. — A grass fire originally reported to be at US-56/77 and 210th Rd. was actually a controlled burn at US-56/77 and K-256. Marion firefighters closed the highway because of dense smoke and spent 40 minutes curtailing the burning.

2:24 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman was transferred by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro from HCH to Parkside Homes.

5:24 p.m. — Grass and trees on fire near 230th and Remington Rds. were extinguished by those conducting a controlled burn before Marion firefighters arrived and verified that the fire was back under control. A second page was necessary as only two firefighters responded to an initial call.

6:11 p.m. — Goessel firefighters treated a controlled burn between Alamo Rd. and K-15 as a training exercise.

6:43 p.m. — A controlled burn that jumped a road near 260th and Alamo Rds. was brought mainly under control before Durham firefighters arrived, but firefighters were asked for help putting out scattered burning near houses there and nearby. Firefighters remained at the fire until 8:17 p.m.
