Goessel sweeps Marion
Staff writer
A best three-of-five match Thursday at the Sports and Aquatic Center in Marion ended in a sweep for Goessel, defeating Marion in straight sets 25-16, 25-23, and 25-17.
Still, Goessel coach Crysta Guhr saw room for improvement.
“As a team, we were at a 0.145 hitting percentage, which needs to be higher, and that’s a point of emphasis this year,” she said. “Our serve game was not great, and we missed far too many. Our passing game is strong, and we were able to defend pretty well.”
The Bluebirds (2-1) will hit the road Saturday against Central Christian, South Haven, and Sedgwick for their first tournament of the season.
“The first tournament is always a good measuring stick for how our young players handle the adversity of the long day,” Guhr said.
Meanwhile, the winless Warriors (0-3) will stay in the county this week, traveling Saturday to Lost Springs for the Centre Invitational.
“Our team has a lot of potential this year,” Marion coach Keri Collett said, “but we are still pretty young and inexperienced, so once we get more time and games under our belt, we are sure to see things come to life.
“I’m hopeful to learn a lot during the Centre tournament. That is a fun one that’s close to home. I’m hoping we gain a lot of confidence this weekend.”
Other teams
Peabody-Burns will be traveling to Solomon this Saturday for a tournament. Centre will be host for an invitational this Saturday. Hillsboro will be on the road Saturday at Southeast of Saline.
