Illegal appointment rescinded

The Marion school board is scheduled May 11 to rescind its premature — and illegal — appointment of former board member Doug Regnier to an empty board seat.
State law requires published notice of a vacancy at least 15 days before it is filled.
“We forgot to actually post it,” said Superintendent Justin Wasmuth. “And I’ll take the blame on that one. It will be rescinded on Monday.”
The legal process for replacing Jillian Edmundson’s vacated at-large seat will be followed, he added.
Edmundson resigned April 13 because she is moving out of town. Regnier was immediately appointed on a 5-1 vote with Molly Guinn opposing.
Regnier then was listed as a member on the board’s website. But the next day, after the Record inquired about it, Regnier’s name was removed.
