Boys basketball

Centre is bringing 12 players to the court this season, six seniors, two juniors, one sophomore, and three freshmen.

Four of the 12 are returning letter winners: Gentri Holub, Santiago Knepp, Nick Krch, and Robert Spohn.

Holub is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder; however, he is dealing with an injury.

“We will need to avoid injuries and stay out of foul trouble in order to be competitive this season,” coach Richard Idleman said. ‘These men have been working hard at getting in shape and improving on their basketball skills,”

Centre will open its season on the road Friday in Wakefield.

Girls basketball

Centre girls will have five seniors on the team this season: Jenaya Plett, Emilee Remmers, Jenna Bittle, Allie Stuchlik, and Sophia Luna.

In addition, two letter winners are returning: Olivia Carlson and Addison Bina.

Unfortunately, Carlson is out due to an injury until at least January.

Centre didn’t graduate anyone last year but lost several players who contributed significantly last season because of a transfer, moving to a different sport, and or not returning to play.

“While five of our 10 players are seniors and all five started at various times last season, we are still a team that doesn’t have a great deal of game experience,” coach Alan Stahlecker said.

Carlson is the team’s leading returning scorer and rebounder but those things will need to be handled in the early part of the season by other players as she heals up from her injury.

“The girls have been working hard at improving in all skill areas, and the senior leadership has stepped into their new role at encouraging and helping the new and younger players,” Stahlecker said.

Centre will open its season Friday on the road at Wakefield.
