Marion lawyer becomes district judge

Marion lawyer and city attorney Susan Robson was appointed by governor Laura Kelly Friday to serve as district judge in Marion County.
Robson was Marion County attorney from 2001 until 2017, when she went into private practice with Marion lawyer Bob Brookens.
She is city attorney for Marion, Goessel, and Durham, and city prosecutor for Hillsboro.
Robson volunteers with local baseball and basketball teams.
She will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of judge Michael Powers.
“During my 30 years of practicing law, I have taken part in almost every type of case that would come before a district court judge,” Robson said. “I’m honored that governor Kelly and the nominating commission have given me the ability to serve my community as a judge.”
“Susan is an accomplished attorney with decades of legal experience,” Kelly said. “As a longtime resident of Marion County, she has demonstrated her commitment to the law, and to the county and its citizens. I know she will serve the people of the 8th Judicial District well on the bench.”
She will stand for retention election every four years.
Robson was one of three nominees for the position. The others were Dickinson County magistrate judge Keith Collett, whom Kelly appointed Geary County District Court judge, and 5th judicial district magistrate Douglas Jones.
