Norma Schmidt

Services for Norma Jane Mohn Schmidt, 85, Hillsboro, who died Nov. 7 at Newton Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Dec. 14 at Crossings Community Church, Newton.

Lunch will follow. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Durham Cemetery.

Born to Richard and Ella (Brown) Dick on Nov. 28, 1938, at her grandparents’ farm outside Lincolnville, she attended one-room Hutchens School.

She married Calvin Mohn on Sept. 18, 1955, in Hillsboro. They later moved to Abilene, where she was a beautician for 27 years. The couple divorced in 1983.

After completing a double master’s degree at Kansas State University, she went on to teach special education from 1989 until her retirement in 2000 from Hillsboro Middle School.

She married Howard Schmidt on Jan. 8, 1994, in Hillsboro. He died this summer.

Survivors include siblings Gaylord Dick, Douglas Dick, and Michelle Kersten; children Shari Prescher of Chapman, Michael Mohn of Abilene, Shawn Strunk of Abilene, and Erin Dilks of Hesston; stepchildren Teresa Goodwin; Jeff Schmidt; Robert Schmidt, and Melissa Snesrud; 10 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 33 step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the church.
