Older kids treat younger ones

High school students provided elementary students treats Friday afternoon at the Sport and Aquatic Center in Marion.
Students dressed up the trunks of their cars with themes like Toy Story and 25 Cent, and others.
The students started arranging cars filled with trunks of candy for 30 to 40 minutes before more than 100 elementary students walked over.
The trunk or treat for elementary students has been happening for three years, Marion School counselor Kris Burkholder said.
“This is a high school idea, and they asked if they could do it,” she said.
After the younger students visited more than 20 trunks they showed off their costumes.
Junior Alycia Jones’ high school seminar designed a makeshift football field and handed out candy.
Another seminar, titled “Hit a freshman,” allowed elementary students to hit freshmen in the head with a rubber mallet.
Sophomore Siggbee Ostlee got into the festivities by wearing a blue wig while handing out candy.
High school history teacher Trevor Bieberle had 11 of his students at the center Friday. He credited the students for coming up with the theme of “Toy Story.”
“The kids googled and found something they like,” he said.
Bieberle said they picked the right theme because almost everyone has knowledge of Toy Store.
Bieberle added the students worked on what their trunk should look like for close to a week.
The students in his seminar come up with a different theme every year.
In addition, Marion Middle School students spent Friday morning visiting locations in Marion and Florence to rake up leaves off of lawns.
