Peabody-Burns ends season as runner-up

Peabody-Burns’s season came to an end Friday night in Tescott with the Warriors losing 28-14 in the section round of the state football playoffs.
“It was a good season overall. However, we did fall short on where we should have been as a team,” head coach Eric Dutton said.
Quarterback Aiden Hurst was credited with both touchdowns scored by Peabody-Burns.
“As a team we have high expectations from day one, and the team fought hard this season and played some great football,” Dutton said. “It was a good feeling to bring a district and regional championship back to Peabody.”
The Warriors are a young team, with only two seniors on the roster.
“This was such a great team with so much talent,” Dutton said. “We are taking two massive losses with graduation.”
Cade Gossen was part-time running back and full-time linebacker and will graduate.
“Cade was the captain of this team, holding them together on the defensive side of the ball and never quitting on his teammates,” Dutton said. “He is an amazing person on and off the field, and it will be a hard loss.”
Starting running back Chris Spencer is the other senior.
“Chris played a large role in the fuctioning of our offense and will be a tough position to fill,” Dutton said. “Cade and Chris are highly idolized by the younger kids of the school and will be greatly missed in the Warrior football program.”
The Warriors will be gaining a few freshmen for next season, two of which are good size for their age.
“Next year should be another good year for Peabody,” Dutton said. “We have a lot to work on between now and the start of the season, but the boys are driven to improve, and I know they are going to put in the work that is needed to take another step in the right direction.”
