ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Oct. 27 — A cow reported loose near K-15 / Holly Rd. and US-56 was not found. A driver stopped for an equipment violation in the 300 block of E. D St. was ticketed for having an expired license. Police talked to a resident about a civil issue.
Oct. 28 — An alarm at Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy accidentally was activated.
Oct. 29 — Police directed traffic while a low-hanging Internet wire at Ash and 3rd Sts. was replaced. Police also conferred with Department of Children and Families personnel about an ongoing case.
Thursday — A vehicle parked improperly in the 400 block of S. Lincoln St. was moved by its owner. Hillsboro High School’s volleyball team was escorted out of town on its way to the state tournament. Police met again with DCF personnel and helped the driver of a Federal Express truck that had broken down at 190th Rd. and Prairie Pointe Ct. Dogs loose near Hillsboro Animal Clinic were not found. A disconnected 911 call from the 400 block of Orchard Dr. was investigated.
Friday — Two drivers stopped for traffic or equipment violations were arrested on other charges, detailed in the Offenses section. A Hillsboro woman’s purse was found in Campbell County, Virginia. Two drivers were ticketed for speeding in the 400 block of S. Main St. Police provided traffic control for trick or treating downtown.
Saturday — Hillsboro High School’s girls’ cross-country team was escorted out of town on its way to the state tournament. Police provided traffic control for Marion County Toy Run and security at a Tabor College football game. A driver was ticketed at 190th and Goldenrod Rds. for running a stop sign at Ash and D Sts. Another driver stopped for an equipment violation in the 100 block of N. Ash St. was ticketed for having no license. Police talked to a resident about a civil issue.
Sunday —A downed Internet line at 3rd and Ash Sts. was reported to the Internet provider. A driver was ticketed for running a stop sign in the 400 block of S. Lincoln St. A burglar alarm in the 300 block N. Madison St. appeared to be a false alarm. A vehicle reportedly being driven east on US-56 from the county line by an emotionally disturbed driver was not found.
MARION
Oct. 27 — A wallet found by a resident was turned in to police. No problems were found in checking on a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of E. Main St. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Timber Rd.
Oct. 28 — A traffic stop for an equipment violation at US-56 and Cedar St. resulted in an arrest on suspicion of drug charges.
Oct. 29 — Drivers were warned for speeding at US-56 and Cedar St. and at US-56 and Timber Rd.
Thursday — Marion High School’s cross-country teams were escorted out of town on their way to the state tournament. Two drivers were warned for speeding at US-56 and Cedar St.
Friday — Multiple Halloween driving complaints were investigated. Police participated in Trunk or Treat at Marion Elementary School and handed out candy, hot dogs, and cookies for Halloween on Main St. Drivers were warned for equipment violations and speeding at US-56 and Industrial St.
Saturday — Police removed a dead raccoon on Hudson St.
Sunday —A deer accident near US-56 and Industrial St. was investigated, but no report was released. A citizen reported receiving a scam call. Two drivers were warned for speeding at US-56 and Industrial St.
