Teams advance to sub-state

Four of five Marion County teams will advance to sub-state volleyball tournaments this weekend.
Marion
The 10th seed Warriors upset second seed Chase County at regionals Monday, advancing to a sub-state competition scheduled for Saturday.
Marion ended its regular season at home last Thursday, losing in two sets to Lebo and in three to Hillsboro.
A short turnaround to prepare for regionals in Chase County hampered the Warriors.
They lost two sets to Bennington to begin before stunning Chase County in three sets.
Marion finished Monday night with a straight-sets victory over Sacred Heart, advancing to sub-state.
The Warriors will travel Saturday to Valley Heights to play Herington.
The winner will play either Valley Heights or Berean Academy in the sub-state championship Saturday night.
Hillsboro
The Trojans finished second Monday night in regionals, losing in straight sets to Valley Heights in the championship match.
A second-place finish means Hillsboro will advance to sub-state competition Saturday.
The Trojans ended their regular season Thursday by losing in three sets to Lebo before winning in three sets against Marion.
They were back in action Monday night, knocking out Hutch-Trinity and Ell-Saline in regionals.
The Trojans will travel Saturday to Inman, facing off against Inman to begin sub-state play.
The winner will play against either Bennington or Moundridge in the sub-state championship game Saturday night.
Centre
The Cougars ended their regular season Thursday, losing two sets to Herington and winning two sets against Wakefield.
This set Centre up to have to win one match out of two to advance to sub-state competition.
The Cougars secured their spot by beating Pike Valley in straight sets on Tuesday.
Sub-state assignments will not be released until Wednesday.
Goessel
Goessel travelled to Rosalia for the last two matches of the regular volleyball season last week.
Flinthills came into the contest with a record of 31-1.
The teams were close in the first set. Goessel eventually pulled away to win 25-22. Goessel rolled in the second set, 25-17.
The Bluebirds then played Berean Academy, winning the first set 25-13. The second set was much closer, with the Bluebirds escaping with a 26-24 win.
The host Bluebirds (29-7) entered their regional tournament Tuesday.
“I feel good about where we’re at for post-season. We’ve put ourselves in position to host this first round, which is great,” head coach Crysta Guhr said beforehand. ”We’re fatigued. ... But we’re healthy.”
Goessel promptly eliminated Norwich and Oxford, becoming regional champions and advancing to sub-state.
Peabody-Burns
The Warriors’ season came to an end Tuesday after Peabody-Burns lost to regional hosts Hanover and were swept in two sets by Tescott.
