Two inmates taken to hospital

Two inmates were taken by ambulance Saturday to St. Luke Hospital from Marion County Jail.
A 43-year-old man complained of chest pains and was coughing up blood.
He was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
According to Marion County jail administrator Jim Philpott, the inmate’s issue was purely medical.
“Maybe an ulcer,” Philpott said.
At the same time, a second inmate was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance with severe withdrawal pains.
Philpott said both inmates were back at the jail around 1:30 a.m.
The incidents were not related, he said.
